The primary audience is young women who are making decisions about birth control. However, the information is essential for anyone who knows someone taking birth control. You are certain to find some things that shock you.
The title mentions "The Pill" because it has become such a generic term for birth control. The various side effects discussed in the book are just as bad, and sometimes worse, with other forms of hormonal birth control, such as injections, implants, and devices.
The main goal of the book is to present information that isn't readily available about birth control so that women can make truly informed decisions about their health.
The short story is that, after listening to a speech from a world renowned doctor, I made the connection that the synthetic steroids in birth control contribute to many autoimmune diseases. However, when I asked him about it afterwards, he lied to me. Confusion and anger about why he would lie to me led me down the rabbit hole. To learn how I discovered he lied to me and hear the longer story, you'll have to read the book:-)
